Getting to Know You – Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself

Afternoon, hope you’re having a relaxing Saturday.

So my stats tell me we have a whole new lot of visitors, I feel like I have just been posting but not really talking much, so I thought it was be nice to well reintroduce myself, yup it’s not a robot firing out the blog posts it’s me Rabbia, pretty much all of my friends call me rabs, and over the years I have got accustomed to it.

So in a nutshell I grew up in Scotland, which I loved, moved to England about 2 years ago, and now call Manchester home, with hubs and two little girls Saira & Sana.

Believe it or not before I started to blog I didn’t even know what a blog was crazy right?

A whole world of awesomeness existed without me even knowing, but a mix of family weddings and studying wedding planning, had me all ready to go with my new career as a wedding planner {a job I hoped would fit around the girls} but what I didn’t really give much thought too was, my little rugrats, with saira having some special needs and sana being well stuck to me, it was really wasn’t working out. But I still needed an outlet somewhere I could store and share my ideas.

After stumbling across some wedding blogs, ah the pretty, it didn’t take long for me to became hooked. I loved the fact someone was writing, a real person with a love of what they were blogging about, new fresh content was uploaded in most cases on a daily bases. But that’s not to say I started blogging straight away oh no, that didn’t happen for a while yet.

So I just stuck to reading that was the easy part, the thought of actually starting a blog was quite scary even though no one was going to read {well maybe your mum or a friend} Oh and that if you even tell them, I found out much later many blogger to it in secret to begin with not really telling anyone, I think I told some friends after about a year!

It’s just the thought of putting something out there in the big World Wide Web, what will people think? Well after much umming and ahhing i wrote my first post {which I rewrote a gazillions times} But I’m glad I did, it was fun, I enjoyed it, there was no motive other than to bring the pretty, and to inspire brides.

There are of course millions of blogs and wedding blogs and its easy to get lot in a sea of them, but there were very few focusing on the asian bride, {or south asian} practically nil in the  UK,  all the blogs I came were across the pond ~

So I guess when I started I was lucky right? no Asian wedding bloggers in the UK, well that’s debatable, I found lots of wedding industry people weren’t too fussed or even aware of the blogging culture. But most savvy industry folk were and it’s changing rapidly I see more and more UK based wedding blogs everyday.

I sometimes wonder why I didn’t stop, when the girls started school and nursery, I had more time to myself, I could have gone fulltime into the planning, but I think I just immersed myself so much that not blogging seemed like something was missing, so choosing to keep going wasn’t really a hard task. Ah but choosing to not go back to work, survive on one salary and concentrate on my blog now that is hard.  I’m still reluctant to call myself a fulltime wedding blogger.

It’s still such a new career path, but the likes of professional UK wedding bloggers Kat & Annabel, who have made it work,  really inspires me.

Its only a matter of time the asian wedding industry comes round, but it’s something I’m certain will happen, it’s just a case of showing the industry that blogs can make a big difference and add huge value. Hey some some might even call it paving the way?? either way its so exciting the people i get to meet and talk to every day they make its all worth it, not to mention the fantastic support from you readers.

Well one thing is for certain that even though the blog has changed and indeed the look and layout, I still hope to maintain what I started with and that is, to keep it real, think out of the box, and to allow anything to inspire you.

So with that it’s very nice to meet you?

i live in manchester too, born and bred mancunian, married with 2 grown up kids and 1 still at school. My hobby is fruit carving and now have started a fb account with my carvings on, have done quite a few last year and this year for mendhi parties in particular. Like looking at new ideas from asian wedding sites.
Celebration Fruit Carvings started this year formally, and have had lots of interest from people all over the world.

I love your blog, and I am a regular on your facebook page. Being a part-time makeup artist, bridal posts attract me immensely. Thanks for sharing brilliant ideas every week. I have an almost-3-year old, and a husband (who’s occasionally my best friend ;) ) and I live in California, USA. I’m originally from Bangladesh.
