Last month I had the opportunity to attend to the Asian Wedding Showcase at the Holiday Inn hotel in Wembley London held within the already popular and recently refurbished Empire Suite which accommodates up to 500 guests. The theme for the day was a wonderful wedding wonderland in which guest could find suppliers and talk with the venue wedding coordinators about their up and coming events.
Organisers Ishaara Events brought together a host of local suppliers. Including Parita Patel of Uniflora who also helped organise the show. Whilst speaking with Parita she told me about the amazing themed show they had created, something she described as Alice in wonderland with a bollywood dhamaka. She also spoke about how they wanted to make sure they had great suppliers exhibiting and that the production level of the show as a whole and catwalk was kept to a high standard.
The show was full of live entertainment including Bollywood dancers, Singers, Harpist, Pianist, dhol players which gave such a buzz. I spoke to many of the suppliers and I have to say I was really impressed with the calibre, there was something for everyone even some suppliers that you wouldn’t normally come across. Below are some of my faves.
Below the very talented Ivory Keys – I honestly could have listened to him play all day. Would be perfect for the first dance. I did make a video at the show but it ended up having to much background noise, so here he is at a wedding he’s previously played at.
The show was kicked off with a wedding wonderland collection of inspired dresses which were made up of flowers and other material by florists at Uniflora. The menswear was by Akshay Vashisht Couture. Jewellery by Deevara Jewels and latest ladies wear collections by Nikaza- Asian Couture and Esha’s Collection. Near the end of the show the fabulous Jay Kumar came on for a fun interactive dance session.
Hair was by Hobs the Salon. I spoke with Aaron the Salon director at Northwood, who along with his stylist from Northwood & Stanmore London branch created the hairstyles for the catwalk. He said ” We wanted to keep the hair all natural with no hairpieces or hair extensions, moving away from very structured hairstyles, which is what we would usually see. By keeping it natural with lots of texture, it looked more effortless”. With a large asian clientele and branches all over the UK, he said “we want to let people know about our wedding packages offer, not everyone knows that we travel to homes and that we do many weddings, the bride and wedding party can have their hair done, be it an updo or a blow dry”
Decor was by Wed In Style
- I have to hand it to the team they put on a show that was well presented, full of energy and filled with great suppliers. who were so friendly. Which makes a massive difference for brides and grooms. I sometimes have issues with local shows they can sometimes seem a little boring but with so much going the show had a great atmosphere.
- There was also just the right amount of suppliers, which gave enough variety but not so much that you felt overwhelmed. If there was one thing I would have liked to see more of it would be henna and makeup artists and for that there is always next year.
